L’Oreal USA is now accepting applications for its 2014 For Women in Science program, from March 24th through May 19, 2014.

Now entering its 11th year, the national awards program annually recognizes the contributions women make in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.

Five U.S.-based women researchers committed to serving as role models for younger generations will receive a fellowship grant up to $60,000 each for their postdoctoral research through the For Women in Science program.

Launched in 2003 as the U.S. component to the L’Oreal –UNESCO For Women In Science International Fellowships program, the U.S. Fellowships aim to raise awareness of the contribution of women to science.

Kristina Schake, chief communications officer, L’Oreal USA, commented:

“Scientific innovation has been fueling L’Oreal’s business success since we were founded by a scientist more than one hundred years ago. And as the leading beauty company, we depend on the contributions women make in the field. Today, women only make up a small fraction of STEM workers in the U.S., which means the potential innovations of tomorrow are missing a huge portion of talent. We want to recognize women leaders in diverse scientific fields and demonstrate what is possible for future generations.”

Candidates should have exceptional academic records and intellectual merit, clearly articulated research proposals with the potential for scientific advancement and outstanding letters of recommendation from advisers.

Winners will be announced in September 2014 and the award ceremony will take place in November in Washington, D.C.
